Inundated roads, waterlogged streets, and employees commuting on tractors- these are the scenes that are currently being seen around Bengaluru. The heavy downpour in the city has disrupted life in India's 'Silicon Valley'.

In the last couple of days, heavy rains have continued to lash the city, submerging several areas in Bengaluru. Houses and vehicles have been partially submerged, affecting day-to-day life. Meanwhile, as citizens faced difficulties, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai cited "unprecedented rainfall and overflowing" water bodies for the deluge. He assured his government's commitment to restore normalcy.

Here are the top developments from the rain-battered Bengaluru:

1) Heavy rains severely impacted Bengaluru leaving overflowing lakes and stormwater drains flooded. Several low-lying areas bore the brunt of rains, with water entering houses and affecting normal life.

2) Several private schools have declared holidays and have switched to online teaching for a few days, while many offices have suggested employees to work from home.

3) A 23-year-old woman died due to electrocution4) Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai faulted the 'maladministration' of the previous Congress governments for the present situation of Bengaluru.

"Basically the issue lies in two zones, particularly the Mahadevapura zone for reasons such as presence of 69 tanks in that small area and almost all of them have either breached or are overflowing. Secondly, all establishments are in low lying areas, and the third is encroachments," CM Bommai said.

"Karnataka, especially Bengaluru has not received unprecedented heavy rain...for the last 90 years such rain has not been recorded. All the tanks are full and are overflowing, some of them have breached, and there have been continuous rains, every day it is raining," he said.

Come2023, I promise to put an end to all this & restore Namma Bengaluru to its former glory,” DK Shivakumar tweeted.

8) Speaking to India Today, BBMP chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath said, “Bengaluru witnessed this kind of rain after 1998. Bengaluru East, i.e Mahadevapura constituency, was flooded due to unprecedented area. It is low line area, many of them encroached the storm water drain there. We are trying to set the things right.
